Inspiration by natural forms and materials

Antony Gaudi and Santiago Calatrava  are both characterised there design projects by the natural forms and functions. Gaudi’s Casa Batillo  is inspired by the use of stone and natural forms, which can be seen in some of his design work. Gaudi's usage of stone is inspiring the rail station material which made of stone as a sustainable material that is the theme of the project.

 interplay between rhythm and structure

Calatrava as an architect and engineer characterised his designs by rhythm and natural forms. He inspired by some of Gaudi’s concepts which shows the relationship between the to architects but in different design movements.

The theme of the light rail station is sustainability which is the main concern globally. Anzac Parade is moved underground to reduce the pollution of noise and toxic gas from cars that are surrounding UNSW and its accommodation buildings. The main concept of this station is use clean energy source which is the solar energy, by exchange or cover the roofs with solar energy boards.

The 3  parallel projections exploring the interconnection between pairs of the drawings:

1.this component created by tow concepts: complexity and engineer theme and forms.

2. this component inspired by the nature style of Antoni Gaudí and the interplay between  rhythm and structure of  Santiago Calatrava.

3. Geometry and Gothic style are the main concepts of this component.

Adding Curves to the three design components to create new form of rectangles and curves.

Exp2- week 1

SANTIAGO CALATRAVA

1.He is a Sculptor, Architect and Engineer

 2. one of his design concepts is influenced by the geometric structure and
maths calculations.

3.He uses interplay between rhythm and structure

ANTONI GAUDI
1. Inspired complexity of forms derived from nature

2. he was famous in designing in Gothic style which is used for religious places.

3. His design work was inspired by natural forms that made his projects as masterpieces.
